Unique event held to raise “breast cancer awareness”
Completed more than 49000 sun salutations in unique 12 steps relay for 12 hours by more than 350 participants
On a weekend when the entire whole world tries to catch up on lost sleep, more than 350 yoga enthusiasts joined for the first of its kind in Gulf – challenging yoga event “12 hours Sun Salutation Relay challenge” .
This kind of event allowed many yoga enthusiasts to join and create an awareness ,to prevent breast cancer.
The yoga challenge was conducted from 6am to 6pm organized by Vyaniti Yoga Studio under the patronage of Embassy of India and Indian Social Club, Muscat.
The program was arranged as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness month to explain the benefits of Sun Salutation in prevention of cancer. The chief guest was Dr Wahid Al Kharusi President Oman Cancer Association, Guest of Honor Mr Rakesh Adlakha, Deputy chief of mission, Embassy of India, Sultanate of Oman and Dr Sathish Nambiar Hon.Chairman, Indian Social Club Oman.
36 teams performed the 12 hours relay, with 5 teams having only 2 participants performing the sun salutation for the entire 12 hours. , We had several beginners who tried first time after only a month’s practice at vyaniti.
The competition went off well with 5 teams with least number of participants for 12 hours relay (108 times sun salutation repeatedly 12 times) being the winner.
Vaishali Shetty performed maximum 1080 SN with a break in 12 hours and Naseer al Hizry ,Bharati, kamakshi, Dhruti, Vaishali performed nonstop 648 times Sun salutations which tests the physical and mental strength.
The highlight was participation of Team Killimanjaro under Naseer Al Hizry an Omani who performed 648 times sun salutations along with his team mates & completed the 12 hour relay challenge. Nasser said ”I like yoga as its all the right breath and I could perform first time so easily due to right breathing which helped me to try more than what I could. I tried first time Sun salutation last year before my Kilimanjaro trek and it helped me to develop strength and immunity”
Vyaniti yoga studio aims to spread the message of good health through these 12 steps which has immense benefits not only to prevent cancer but also to prevent Diabetes ,Thyroid, High blood pressure, hormonal imbalance.
Prema Nagesh founder of Vyaniti yoga Studio in the opening address stressed the need for performing sun salutation for prevention of cancer and maintaining good health. Dr Wahid al kharusi mentioned about how yoga helps in absorption of oxygen and prevents cancer and appreciated the good work done by the team in spreading awareness. , He further stressed that this should be spread to cancer patients to derive all the benefits.
The event was supported by Badar al Sama polyclinic by giving free sugar and bp tests for the entire day, more than 150 participants availed their services.
Thanks for Oman cancer association who arranged a mobile mammogram unit and 20 participants availed their services.
Apollo Hospitals provided free full health checkup vouchers and Coimbatore Auurveda sala provided free treatment coupons which was given away as prizes to winners.
Dr Wahid al kharusi mentioned about how yoga helps in absorption of oxygen and prevents cancer and appreciated the good work done by the team in spreading awaressnes.Mr Rakesh adlakah spoke of the initiative by embassy in conducting international yoga day and reaching the masses to the community at large. Dr Satish Nambiar mentioned about the large turnout for the event which shows the enthusiasm and awareness about maintaining good health.
Certificates were awarded to the Teachers trained by Vyaniti Yoga Studio and prizes were given away to the winners of today’s relay challenge.
The program concluded by vote of thanks by Mr Badri Group CEO Zubair group of companies.
